Digging back the original issue just to provide some insights.

Ok, and the /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor config file remained
behind, still telling applications to try to load a module that isn't
there any more. Ideally the script should check that
/usr/lib/[something]/gtk-3.0/modules/libatk-bridge.so
Not clear how to properly get the value for [something], since one would
need to have it for the arch being run, which could be several archs...
