 The Ubuntu script is essentially a previous version of the Debian
 script; it calls in many commands, triggers many file reads, both of
 these slowing the boot, and is generally quite odd.  Please, let's find
 out why the new Debian script doesn't work for you and we'll do Debian
 and Ubuntu some good.
