Linux itself provides an interface to query data that otherwise is
provided by "dmidecode" running with uid 0. This interface can be
found under /sys and is there since Lenny.

Please consider switching like the package "edac-utils" as I currently
don't have access to an ASUS and/or IBM laptop to provide you with a
patch.

The following files depend on dmidecode:

  /etc/acpi/asus-wireless.sh
  /etc/acpi/thinkpad-stretchortouchpad.sh
	/usr/share/acpi-support/device-funcs
