I have no idea to be honest, you'd better ask upstream for this kind of detail.

No, I see that all these scripts can be optimized quite a bit. I haven't
checked with upstream if they are interested in these changes, so having them
as a patch would help getting them into the Debian package as soon as possible.
Feel free to send patches for one file at a time if you prefer that, but then
we should probably open seperate bug reports for each change. Also please keep
in mind that the scripts are already heavily patched, so we might want to merge
some of these changes.
