I'm really sorry if my patch/ticket has offended you in any way, I did
not have this intended.
I would like to point out couple of things to clarify reason and
intention of my patch and I really do hope you will reconsider.
- First of all, my patch updates 'debian/powerbtn.sh' which gets
installed into '/etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh' according to 'debian/acpid.install'.
I tested my patch locally and it indeed solves my problem.
- I do understand your concern that this patch is mate related and mate
is not supported by Debian. But unfortunately powerbtn.sh doesn't provide
any way to 'plugin' different name of DE's power manager application. If I
indeed missed something and there is a better way to add support for mate
into powerbtn.sh by all means please mention it to me and I'll be happy to
make a patch to a more appropriate package.
I would also like to note that similar thing had happen before:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=547326. That bug report
shows that Moblin's power manager applet was (and still is) included into
'powerbtn.sh' eventhough to the best of my understanding Moblin (or Meego)
is not part of Debian.
- And last thing: there is a similar problem with 'sleep' button which
can be fixed by a patch to acpid-support package (file:
'/usr/share/acpi-support/policy-funcs'). I was hoping to provide that patch
just after this one in a separate ticket.
Thank you so much.
Have a nice day.
