By the way, perhaps some of these didn't get cleaned up,
# find /etc -name alsa\*|xargs ls -R
/etc/apm/event.d/alsa /etc/hotplug/blacklist.d/alsa-base /etc/modutils/alsa-base
/etc/default/alsa /etc/init.d/alsa /etc/modutils/alsa-path
/etc/default/alsa.debconf-backup /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
/etc/devfs/conf.d/alsa /etc/modutils/alsa

/etc/alsa:
modutils

/etc/alsa/modutils:
0.5 0.9.debconf-backup 1.0.debconf-backup

if one always does apt-get remove --purge, and only has installed
# dpkg --get-selections|awk '/alsa/{print $1}'
alsa-base
alsa-utils
alsaplayer
alsaplayer-alsa
alsaplayer-common
alsaplayer-esd
alsaplayer-gtk
alsaplayer-jack
alsaplayer-nas
alsaplayer-oss
alsaplayer-text
vlc-plugin-alsa
