[Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#285050: alsa-base: doesn't create /dev/snd/* devices when using udev

I'm using udev and would expect devices to appear in /dev/snd when the alsa modules are loaded. The modules load successfully but no devices appear. This results in error messages like

stewart@orb:~$ alsamixer
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

and

orb:/home/stewart# /etc/init.d/alsa start
Starting ALSA.../etc/init.d/alsa: Error: alsactl restore failed with message 'alsactl: load_state:1134: No soundcards found...'.
done.


This may be related to #279325.
