  Hello,

The bug reporter seems to have a similar configuration to mine: a
recent VIA southbridge that provides sound (ALSA's via82xx driver)
along with the AD1980 codec chip (the reporter mentioned "Soundmax",
which is the market-speak for it). With these two, I've had perfect
sound support ever since the big ALSA merge on 2.6.3-rc1 (which now
has ALSA 1.0.2c).

I believe that a combination of ACPI, APIC and the latest ALSA would
solve any problems encountered (which are nonetheless not described in
the report). Other quick tips:

  - Those "codec_valid" messages are not fatal, I get four of these as
well but everything is working great.

  - If the via82xx driver suggests using a dxs_support option at load
time, various values can make a difference.

  - ALSA tends to start the drivers muted, so sometimes, if everything
seems to be working perfectly but no sound is heard, all one has to do
is run alsamixer and change the volumes accordingly.

Cheers,
Vasilis
