i,

I have a very similar problem with the following configuration:

ii alsa-base 1.0.6a-5 ALSA configuration files
ii alsa-modules-2.4.27-1-k7 1.0.6a+4 Advanced Linux Sound
Architecture
ii alsa-utils 1.0.6-4 ALSA utilities

Sound system is working rather properly but I get continual hisses out
of my soundcard, some sound is coming out as well but is completely
garbled. I configured the card with alsaconf, config sounds OK
(attached). I have also a bt87x and snd-usb-sound (webcam) loading at
boot time, but it doesn't change anything to rmmod them.

$ /sbin/lsmod | grep snd
snd-ens1371 12100 1 (autoclean)
snd-pcm-oss 37608 0 (unused)
snd-mixer-oss 13272 0 [snd-pcm-oss]
snd-pcm 58952 1 [snd-ens1371 snd-pcm-oss]
snd-timer 14308 0 [snd-pcm]
gameport 1676 0 [snd-ens1371]
snd-rawmidi 13092 0 [snd-ens1371]
snd-seq-device 4064 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd-ac97-codec 54608 0 [snd-ens1371]
snd 34308 0 [snd-ens1371 snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss
snd-pcm snd-timer snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec]
snd-page-alloc 4908 0 [snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm snd-timer
snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd]
soundcore 3972 6 [snd]

Sound works otherwise with ALSA from SuSE 8.2 and Knoppix 3.6. I don't
know what is different.
Tell me what I should look at and I give you more information.

Cheers, Eric
