Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.6a-10
Severity: wishlist
More or less accidentially I found out that there is an alsa-oss package
that is needed to make the oss compatibility layer work properly.
Without it some apps did not work correctly. E.g. tuxracer went into
uninterruptable sleep when I loaded it the first time. After killing X
and starting turracer again, it worked. Of course, the first tuyracer
process remained untill I rebooted. Installing alsa-oss solved the
problem. My problem was that I didn't even know the package existed. The
alsa-oss packge has absolutely no reverse depends, so I think some kind
of dependency would help users notice that the package is there and to
make sound work properly for OSS-only applications.
best regards
Andreas Janssen
