[Pkg-alsa-devel] hardware mixing breakage

Hello, dear developer!
I hope I'm contacting the right person now:
I'm running selfcompiled alsa and kernels now for more than one year, but I got continuous problems with the latest alsa-source packages.
1.)
("alsa stop" doesn't unload the modules / "alsa start" doesn't load the modules)
Is it right that modprobe should take care of that?
2.) When I modprobe the driver manually (snd-cs46xx) the sound works okay but I can't open
the sound device multiple times. In Alsa 0.9 my card supported 32 hardware channels, and same with alsa 1.0x.
I tried another distribution and it works (so it's no alsa bug) and I even got it running under
the 2.4.26 kernel image which is precompiled available in Debian.
Another thing is:
Alsa seems to search for an /etc/alsa/modutils/1.0 file, which contains the same lines
as /etc/modutils/alsa-base.
I symlinked them, but the behaviour is still the same...
I'd be glad if you could give me just any hint / suggestion on how the problem could be resolved for I couldn't find a similar bug report related to alsa or your package.
thanks in advance,
Stefan K. >8^)
