hi

even if I go single user mode , I cannot unload the alsa sound modules because
$ modprobe -r snd-trident-synth
reports that the module is in use

this is a pain in the a** for me:  I have a PCTEL winmodem, and I have
downloaded the modules to use it, and they work;  but they are incompatible
with the audio modules , and they work iff I have not loaded the sound module;
but the only way to unload the sound modules is to reboot in single user mode

btw: I mount devfs on /dev

I am closing bug reports against alsa-source that are more than one year
old and that relate to upstream aspects of the package.  The reports are
too old to be of any use now.
