I think that it would be good to start with a man page that contained just
pointers like those you just gave.  It would be good to add a paragraph
about what /etc/asound.conf and .asoundrc do (viz., configure the
ALSA library) and what the basic syntax of the file is.  This should
not attempt to replace the official documentation, but just to give the
user something to start with.  Some examples would be most helpful.
