Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.8-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I have a Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 on this machine. I
use the ALSA output plugin for xmms. Looking at the configuration
options for it (through xmms' preferences window), I noted that
for "audio device" I could choose either "EMU10K1" or "EMU10K1
FX 8010". I'd be doing just fine with the former; but as an
experiment, I changed my setting to the latter.

Hitting play on xmms then resulted in a hard lockup, with only
the reset button or a power cycle as options.

I still don't know what that audio device is a reference to, and
I'm perfectly willing to believe that it's not something I would
have wanted to do anyway. However, it shouldn't be possible for
xmms to lock up the system, even if it is misconfigured.
