there's no multiarch support yet. biarch lets you build 32/64 bit code
for the "corresponding" platform, using the -m32/-m64 switch in the
compiler. to build the runtime library for java (libgcj) the libasound
library is needed for biarch. that can make sense, if shipping
applications for i.e. amd64 is needed, which are not yet 64bit clean,
i.e. OpenOffice.org.
