Who said compiling? :)
Using Debian official Linux packages is a very good option for servers as well
as workstations. Saves a lot of maintainance work, at a minimal loss in
performance.

Precisely, installing linux-sound-base is a good way to disable loading of all
these sound-related modules. Much better than creating the noOSS and noALSA
files by hand:
- Easier/faster (apt-get install linux-sound-base).
- Module list is updated with new releases.
