Maybe I didn't emphasize enough that the problem is now gone, please see
last console snippet in my previous post. What troubles me most is that
I don't see what exactly solved it - I upgraded to 1.0.12, still bad,
then tried to reload alsa (I'm not even sure what exactly does it do,
sorry, just a shot in the dark), killed some processes still using audio
devices and violá - playback works.

I can see similar experience in original issue, reported by Javier - if
I read him correctly, he was trying to debug the issue, and at some
point it just started to work without any obvious reason. Qoute:

Maybe the problem is not in alsa itself, but in some postinstall cleanup?
I'm just ALSA user, but maybe someone will spot a pattern somewhere.
