[Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#446953: linux-sound-base simply obsolete?

I also ran into this issue ("linux-sound-base depends on udev"),
and I also don't want to switch to udev (static /dev is working fine).

I'd suggest a different solution:

linux-sound-base is becoming obsolete and therefore a good candidate for
being removed before lenny.

Hardware not supported by ALSA but supported by OSS only covers some ISA
cards plus some exotic hardware (read: not PCs).

The OSS modules are becoming more and more unpopular, also due to the
fact that most applications now support ALSA, and some applications
(especially non-free ones) not or no longer support OSS.

The amount of overlap of hardware support between ALSA and OSS is
already greatly reduced in recent kernels and is being reduced further.

The few OSS kernels modules currently present that overlap with ALSA
regarding hardware support could be either no longer being built in the
kernel images or always blacklisted in Debian (unless the user manually
removes a blacklist entry).
