alsactl init is introduced in alsa-utils 1.0.18. Sorry for the
mismatch.

# df

# cat /proc/asound/cards

# rm /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
# /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart
# ls -al /var/lib/alsa/asound.state

Adjust your mixer

# alsactl store
# ls -al /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
Output
# /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart
# ls -al /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
