Elimar,

As a follow-up to this, I was having issues with video drivers and
getting them working properly in the GLX mode. Someone suggested that
I check for any BIOS upgrades on my MB. I did check and found several
upgrades to the BIOS beyond the version I was running.

I upgraded the BIOS, and now all is well. I have sound under AMD64!
