That doesn't seem to be the problem.  The card is still supported 
and recognized:

~ [501]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [I82801AAICH    ]: ICH - Intel 82801AA-ICH
                      Intel 82801AA-ICH with CS4299 at irq 9
 1 [UART           ]: MPU-401 UART - MPU-401 UART
                      MPU-401 UART at 0x300, irq 5

It's just not accessible to applications:
~ [505]$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
aplay: device_list:226: control open (0): No such file or directory
aplay: device_list:226: control open (1): No such file or directory
