Elimar, a few comments & questions, because I need a bit of help
to know what's missing, and you know the current state of conffiles
better than I.

I've committed changes to -lib, -driver and -plugins.

In -driver, I've removed what I thought was cruft, and one recent addition
by you I moved to alsa-base.preinst. The rest, old conffiles, checks for
devfs and Linux 2.4 or less are gone. I was tempted to get rid of checks for
udev because we assume it's installed and running, but in the end I decided
it doesn't hurt to leave it around.

In -plugins, I changed the use of sed to do in-place replacements, so you
can spare a bit of a for. However, I haven't tried this yet as it's late
and I'm going to bed, but it should be ok. If you see any obvious mistake,
please make me stand corrected ;)

Regarding .la subsititutions, do we actually want .a and .la files, anyway?
Shouldn't we just get rid of them? See #506432. I think Stefan is right;
we probably can't build anything against that, and in any case, they'd go
in a -dev package.

In -lib, I plan to move to a .symbols file (replacing shlibs), which will
allow us to upgrade -lib in unstable without disrupting ongoing testing
transitions. More on that later.

If you could review the changes and see if I fucked up anywhere, I'd be very
happy. Also, if you think I left any important recent conffile in alsa-base's
and alsa-utils' prerms, please feel free to add whatever you know is missing,
I'm trying to get an idea of what's needed in that front using svn blame,
but it's probably not too practical. :)
