According to /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/REDAME.Debian.gz do:

Set up a module loader configuration file
/etc/modprobe.d/local.conf to look like this:

alias snd-card-0 snd-usb-audio
options snd-usb-audio index=0

and run as root 'alsa reload' or 'reboot'.
