Please send the output of:
$ grep snd-usb-audio /etc/modprobe.d/*

Since alsa-base (1.0.23+dfsg-1) we made shure an usb-sound device
doesn't get the primary one. Read

alsa-driver (1.0.23+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Prevent snd-usb-audio to be the first soundcard via
    /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. (closes: #574593).

  Never make anything simple and efficient when a way
  can be found to make it complex and wonderful ;-)
