Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.25+2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
 For over a month now I have not been getting any sound from the
system. This was after some updates and upgrades. I am running an
up-to-date Debian sid. First I thought it was a pulseaudio issue,
hence filed 676652 and then thought it was a kernel issue (as it was
one of the updates) hence filed 677457 which can be seen as merged.

Talking to few people on IRC came to know that perhaps it's alsa at fault.

$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: VT1705 Analog [VT1705 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 2: VT1705 HP [VT1705 HP]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I was then told to run this command :-

$ aplay -D plughw:0,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
aplay: main:682: audio open error: Device or resource busy

As can be seen something is blocking the device but dunno what. Can
somebody help
