Run vlc and set the output to "ALSA audio output"

Sorry, Jessie. I am not aware of those idioms as I am running always
sid sighhhh.

First we have to find out whether pulsaudio or ALSA is crackling.
Second you should be adviced to upgrade to drivers and software
which are maintained.

Numeric stability is probably not all that
important when you're guessing;-)
