<F6> doesn't switch sound cards. You'll see a list of available
sound devices which you can "browse by hitting pageup/pagedown
buttons. To select one just hit <enter>.

Well, alsamixer isn't designed to work with your mouse. You can
navigate with your keyboard. Thats it. To exit alsamixer just hit
<escape>.

This is the default. You have to navigate by your keyboard to the
device you need. Check out <F3-6> ;)
