$ dpkg -l | grep libasound2 | awk {'print $2,$3'}
libasound2:amd64 1.1.7-1

If ~/.asoundrc doesn't exist, same error:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1099:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

If previous ~/.asoundrc exists, everything works as expected.
