Package: alsa-utils
Version: 1.2.6-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

  A beep could not be produed

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

  Creating a beep with:

  sound=$(printf '\007')
  printf "$sound" > /dev/tty

   * What was the outcome of this action?

  No sound.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

  The usual, a beep.

###

  First noticed after an "fsck ..." forced a reboot in "checkroot.sh"

  Also occures after a "shutdown -r now".
