[Pkg-alsa-devel] Dual audio sampling rate problems

Dear Alsa maintainers,

I'm using Debian oldstable here and have following problem with this
setup (same on Mint/Unstable, btw.):

- dedicated audio card from M-Audio:
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI
Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02) based

- integrated audio in graphics card:
Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Device aaf0

- onboard audio chip:
Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] SBx00 Azalia (Intel
HDA) (rev 40)

Initially, in alsamixer, there are two values of 'Multi Track Internal
Clock': '[44100]' and 'Default [41000]'

After playing videos with Mplayer (media info: sampling rate 44100Hz),
audio files (media info: bit rate 112Kbit/s, sampling rate 44100Hz) will
be played at a noticably lower 'pitch'; recording (with gnome-recorder)
will also record at a lower pitch.

Also, when trying to play a regular film DVD with vlc after that, it
very likely shows short dropouts of black screen and audio, at steady
intervals of ~2s.

In alsamixer, there are now two values of 'Multi Track Internal Clock':
'[44100]' and 'Default [48000]'

I can but set the second value to 41000 again, but it doesn't seem to
have any effect.

The dedicated audio card is used for everything here; the internal audio
chip doesn't seem to be affected. GC audio is never used, since it
mostly produces totally unusable audio results, if any.

The same often happens, after the system was put into standby and woken
up again.

To remedy the situation, it's necessary, to log out the user and logon
again, which it quite painful in succession. I suppose, somehow the
internal multitrack clock is set to 48kHz sampling rate on playing the
videos, but the default isn't restored after closing, or other instances
using the same 'sink' are locked to that rate, too.

This seems to be a bug requiring a fix.

Do you have any suggestions, on how to work around logging out, to reset
the audio sampling rate, in the meantime?

Best regards,
ladybug
