Package: alsa-ucm-conf
Version: 1.2.15-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
A routine apt upgrade caused sound to stop working on my system (or
anyone's system who has a USB-Audio device that is dependent on ALSA UCM
     for proper configuration).

Attempting to diagnose the problem led to discovery of an error messages
     printed by most alsa utilities:
ALSA lib parser.c:270:(parse_syntax_field) Incompatible syntax 8 in USB-Audio.conf
ALSA lib main.c:1554:(snd_use_case_mgr_open) error: failed to import hw:3 use case configuration -22
ALSA lib parser.c:2978:(uc_mgr_scan_master_configs) Unable to open '-hw:3': Invalid argument

Examining the history of the upstream led me to
     https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-ucm-conf/commit/0515e5b7ccf86905701655d066b9ac0d46eb9cf4
which notes "'Syntax 8' is required (alsa-lib 1.2.15+)" in its commit
description. I then confirmed that libasound2t64 is at version 1.2.14-2 on my
system and that this version is current in testing.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

To work around the problem I downloaded the previous version of
/usr/share/alsa/ucm2/USB-Audio/USB-Audio.conf from github and replaced it
     on my system.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Sound works again with the older version.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I would not expect Debian to package alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.15 until other
ALSA packages are updated to the matching version (or at least, I would
     expect alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.15-1 to Require libasound2t64 >= 1.2.15 so that
I would not automatically upgrade to a broken version).
