Sounds like a good idea, reminds me of OpenBSD trying to get rid of
config files in /etc that contain only defaults anyway.

I'm happy about any sane simplification of the debian/ contents, and if
I remember right, the mechanism that produces the /etc/defaults files
did catch my eye earlier.

But maybe we should merge the systemd-fixuser branch first, as it
touches this area too?

First, though, I would wait a bit to see if anything happens with the
new version in experimental, especially regarding piuparts.

And I'd like to address the top item of the current todo list in the
migrate-files branch soon.

BTW, speaking of the systemd-fixuser branch, I consider that it will close
the "wontfix" bug #699149, so you may note that in the changelog :-)
