I was referring not to ‘hg update’, but to ‘hg fetch’, which pretty much
*is* the same thing as ‘bzr update’. So:

    I would expect a ‘bzr update’ to succeed simply because Mercurial can
    do essentially the same with ‘hg fetch’.
