Rhubarb,

you probably don't need to reboot.
I stopped the boinc-client,

 sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client stop

before copying the ca-bundle file, and then i restarted boinc-client

sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client start

The client then immidiately contacted the world community grid project
and downloaded a new task.
