Thanks for quick answer. I don't have time for more testing now, but it
works if i start boinc (the daemon) as root:

# boinc --check_all_logins --redirectio --dir /var/lib/boinc-client
% boinccmd --get_disk_usage

======== Disk usage ========
total: 29526847488.000000
free: 20935532544.000000
