Yes I did. It didn't help.

I upgraded recently to the development version of jaunty. The problem
went away,

Your wrong terminology makes your report confusing (boincmgr never
connects to project servers).

Did you try opening boincmgr from the K menu (*not* by typing boincmgr
on a terminal)?
