This might be due to specific projects being used.
I've experienced a complete lockup on my server (which is running boinc in a 32bit OpenVZ container), too.
I'm running the following projects on my server (Hardy):
# boinccmd --get_project_status | grep "master URL:"
master URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
master URL: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/
master URL: http://climateprediction.net/
I never had any lockups on my desktop though (Karmic now):
$ boinccmd --get_project_status | grep "master URL:"
master URL: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/
master URL: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/
master URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
master URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/
master URL: http://climateprediction.net/
I could imagine this is caused by some specific project, so please post
your results.
