Curious that synaptic tells me appmenu-gtk related to dbus and I find /usr/bin/aptd
daemon (dbus related apparently) is crashing.   And with appmenu-gtk present, yes
a resize fixed the problem in boinc manager.  Newly installed 12.04 today.
