I tested this with upstream and dlopening libnvidia-ml.so.1 does the trick. There is a pull request upstream: https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/pull/1522 which will flow into the boinc-client package soon after a new Client release.

I CCed the Debian  BOINC maintainer list so they can adopt the patch before that if they want to.
