Sorry for the confusion. What I meant is that I had this problem with
the latest version available on Wheezy (in fact, when I discovered in
Wheezy the problem, searching on Internet I found the bug #704057 ---
the solution there was not helpful but LC_ALL=C worked for me) and with
the current version of Jessie (0.8.8b + dfsg-8 + deb8u2).

In other words, this bug would be present in stable and oldstable.

Yes, that's right.

Maybe it has to do with the particular configuration of locales. Since
from that time until now it seems that no one reported any problems
after application of that patch (perhaps because they did not have this
problem), I thought it might be useful.
