Hello,

I experience the same problem and I believe the severity for this bug
should be raised.

Not only I find myself with a full /var, which is something that rather
disrupts my work, but now I understand why my laptop battery recently
lasted so little after I disconnectred it from power and network cables.

This is serious enough that I now have to uninstall freshclam from my
laptop :(
