The renaming was actually from clamd.conf in 0.97 to clamd.conf.sample 
in 0.98, so the dpkg error
"The new file /usr/share/doc/clamav-base/examples/clamd.conf does not 
exist!"
does not make much sense, as this is the *old* file.

Thanks for this hint. With this setting, I can reproduce the problem.
I'm going to look into this problem.
