I don’t really understand what *was* wrong,
I *had* this packages installed on two different machines:
clamav-base:i386 0.100.0+dfsg-0+deb8u1
clamav-daemon:i386 0.100.0+dfsg-0+deb8u1
clamav-freshclam:i386 0.100.0+dfsg-0+deb8u1
and trying to upgrade clamav-base wanted to remove clamav-daemon with
the dependency error on my origina bug report.
After the message from Sebastian Andrzej Siewior I was able to upgrade
the three packages with this command:
# aptitude install clamav-base=0.100.1+dfsg-0+deb8u1 clamav-daemon=0.100.1+dfsg-0+deb8u1 clamav-freshclam=0.100.1+dfsg-0+deb8u1
This is a snippet from /var/log/aptitude:

Aptitude 0.6.11: log report

IMPORTANT: this log only lists intended actions; actions which fail due to
dpkg problems may not be completed.
Will install 3 packages, and remove 0 packages.
92.2 kB of disk space will be used

[UPGRADE] clamav-daemon:i386 0.100.0+dfsg-0+deb8u1 -> 0.100.1+dfsg-0+deb8u1
[UPGRADE] clamav-freshclam:i386 0.100.0+dfsg-0+deb8u1 -> 0.100.1+dfsg-0+deb8u1

Log complete.

apt-get (or aptitude) dist-upgrade insisted on trying to remove
clamav-daemon.
I really don’t know why.
Anyway, now my clamav installation is upgraded and hopefully apticron
and unattended-upgrades will stop pestering me.
