Someone (Peter?) requested we adopt the bibledit package.
I've done a fresh package of bibledit by updating the old official
bibledit-2.2-2.1 package that is in Ubuntu Intrepid.
Since this one has no dependency on the SWORD libs at all, it should be
easy for anyone running Ubuntu Intrepid to grab it and test it. Since I
know very little about how it is supposed to work, my testing has been
extremely superficial!
TODO:
(1) Test it and report results. Either grab the binary package from my
PPA or else grab the source package from there and build it on your
system (it would be particularly good to have a Debian user try this),
and then test and test and test some more!
(2) We (I?) should add appropriate menu and .desktop files so the
package installer does it magic and creates nice menu entries for it on
the end user's desktop. Should be easy enough, I just forgot about it
earlier!
(3) We need manpages (again!). This time we have:
W: bibledit: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/bibledit-bibletime
W: bibledit: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/bibledit-bin
W: bibledit: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/bibledit-git
W: bibledit: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/bibledit-help
from lintian, so those tools each need a man page. Also, the current
bibledit man page (the one in the source tarball) is *extremely*
minimalist. It would be good (IMO) if we could create one with at least
a little more information in it than:
NAME
bibledit - a Bible editor
DESCRIPTION
Bibledit is a Bible editor. It is started by typing "bibledit"
on the commandline. For more information see the online help of
the graphical user interface.
LICENSE
This program is distributed under the GNU General Public License,
as noted in each source file.
Version x.x Month Day Year BIBLEDIT(8)
I'd say whoever wrote that is probably not someone who enjoys writing
man pages(!). I think we should be able to improve on it.
My debian/changelog entry was:
bibledit (3.5-1ubuntu1~jmarsden1) intrepid; urgency=low
* New upstream release.
* Use normal CDBS, not tarball-in-tarball.
* Remove patch for gcc 4.3, no longer needed.
