There are some binary packages of Xiphos for Ubuntu in the packaging 
team PPA , see https://launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa

These are the work of Dmitry, from back in early February, and are aimed 
at various Ubuntu releases.  I don't know how well they would install 
and work on Debian, but they might "just work" :)

I have a working Debian VM, but so far I have not done anything with 
Xiphos at all, in Ubuntu or Debian.

Hopefully Dmitry can provide better info that this for you!
