I've encountered this bug locally, but I also encountered it when
packaging sword for Alpine Linux.
Jaak Ristioja on the sword-devel list provided a patch, which is r3245
in sword SVN; the patch is also online here:
 http://git.alpinelinux.org/cgit/aports/tree/testing/sword/01-corediatheke.patch?id=708e933b22f8c17cbeeb5a65c25aaf3104aeb446
