The bug appears to be fixed upstream.
It was tested and confirmed to be fixed in upstream version 1.8.1.
The upstream version is available here:
http://www.crosswire.org/ftpmirror/pub/sword/source/v1.8/
Once the package maintainer will package this version, I expect this bug to
be fixed.
