I agree that it is annoying.  However, I think the difference is that
the new alioth-lists.debian.net service lacks the same spam filtering
capbility as the old service (which I believe used the same
infrastructure as lists.debian.org).

In any event, it might be worth investigating what additional
possibilities exist with the current service.  Feel free to mail me the
password in an encrypted email and I will take a look.
