You mean, that the device should be checked with 'fdisk -l', and only if
the partition is type 'swap', cryptsetup and mkswap should be run over
it?

i believe that this is not a good idea. cryptsetup generally doesn't
check what it overrides, or do you think that it should check for files
in an ext3/reiserfs/xfs/... filessystem too, before mapping the device?

second, not all swap partitions are real primary disk partitions. many
people use lvm logical volumes or volumes from other lv managers as swap
partitions.

i believe that your wishlist item does not make much sense. what do you
think?
