yes, and theoretically every existing filesystem. currently only
ext{2,3} and xfs are supported.
prechecks make it possible to check the source device. for example it
could be useful to check whether a filesystem is on the source device,
and don't run 'cryptsetup {create, luksOpen}' in that case.

yes, but generally it can be useful to have the conversation in the
